Is there a gauge cluster that includes a mechanical oil pressure? This morning when my daughter started to school in her 64 Dart...the oil pressure light came on as she left the driveway. I know the oil level is fine because I just checked it. After about a block...the light went off. I need to do the external voltage regulator on the cluster also. I have no use for those idiot lights. I like to see actual pressure. Any suggestions? Rick |

I bought one from sunpro. Replace teh nylon hose with copper and you're in business. It was pretty inexpensive. |

I bought the upgrade 2 5/8" Auto Meter oil gauge and plumbed it with copper using a "T" of the back of the oil pump. Doc had suggested that I should up grade the 2 1/16" standard Auto Meter gauge which pulsed at times even with the new rebuild.....I also installed a stand alone voltmeter to verify how much voltage the system was generating. It is nice to know what is going on......

What kind of oil pressure should I see out of the motor? The 3 gauges that I always install in cars is volt,oil pressure,coolant temp. I want to see what is happeing. Thought if there was a gauge cluster that had mechanical units I would use it and keep it as stock as possible... Thank you Rick |

Rick, Both my rebuilt and stock engines show 50 lbs. on start up and at cruise. That is with a stock oil pump and 0-30W Mobil One. Hot idle is 28 to 30 lbs. and hot cruise is 46-48 lbs at 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm. At 3000 rpm it's at 50 lbs. I have the volt meter, oil pressure, vacuum gauge and tach mounted under the dash. The tach is large and the furthest from me, to the left of the glove box angled at me. Then the vacuum gauge which I drive by is also angled towards me, then the oil gauge, cooling fan switches and volt meter. The larger 2 5/8" faces are much easier to see at a glance. I still run the stock gauges and they work fine, but I also like having the large face gauges under the dash. Hope that helps!

Just a quick term correction, the charging system develops output in amps to the battery that stores electricity in available voltage. |
