Slant Six Forum :: Interior Maintenance

If you've been following my resurection of the 1976 BarnFindValiant, you know that it sat in a garage for about 25 years....most of that in Lubbock, TX.

This led to the remarkable state of preservation of the paint and interior, but that dry west Texas air is not a friend of soft interior parts like the dashboard cover, etc.

Fortunately, said cover only has one tiny crack that you really have to be looking for to find. So...my goal now is to thoroughly clean the years of dust off of the dashboard cover and give it a good dose of some sort of rejuvenating chemical that will help stabilize it and give it a helping hand at staying intact for the next 34 years.

Do you guys have any suggestions or experience with anything, store-bought, or home-made for that matter, that will do the trick and not do any harm in the process?

I've heard anecdotal stories that some of the big names like Armor-All actually do harm to soft parts in the long run, but I don't know how true that is. And...since my recent old cars before the BFV all pre-date the era of dashpads, etc I don't have much experience in this realm.

Try these folks, they have been in the restoration biz for many years, and have some good treatments for automobile interiors. I have used their products over the years, and been satisfied with the results.

If you apply it to a vinyl top, and it rains you have a mess. I have used Griot's Garage products and they do a good job. http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/car ... +ounces.do This link will take you right to the product i use on my dash and vinyl tops. Its does not leave a greasy mess after you apply it. If you decide to use it tell me what you think of it. By the way i have purchased a lot of cleaners and waxes from them and have been satisfied with their products. The car wash liquid is to over priced . But the other stuff is really good.

Also try Eastwood .....I found the material to patch a crack in my dash pad. you can't tell it was even there ..and I live near Lubbock Eastwood carries mostly quality materials and you won't be disappointed and if you are they will refund your $ regards max

Griot's Garage mostly deals with car detailing.
