I went out tonight to try and adjust the idle on my 64 Dart with the one barrel Carter BBS and noticed that I am missing the idle adjusting screw. I do have the fast idle screw though.

Is this common that it wouldn't be there? Looks like I'll need to find one if anyone knows of a place to get one.

Are you sure yours is missing rather than never having been there? I mean, is there a provision for two screws? Some of the early carbs only had one screw, but I thought those were 1960 only.

Yeah, there's definitely a missing screw. There are threads for one and my 1964 service manual shows one also.

It is a common therad size screw, either an 6-32 or an 8-32 UNF.
The trick is the matching tension spring that keeps the screw from moving once set, the size and lenght of the spring is important so you have the correnct tension at your idle setting.

Thanks for the info! I suspect I can just find a spring that matches the fast idle spring.

I added a picture to the post above. I guess I'll figure it out once I find an idle screw, but I'm wondering what the screw presses against when in use. Maybe I'm missing some more parts on my carburetor. As you can tell I have a lot to learn!

There is a shoulder screw with a large head, that holds the fast idle cam, the curb idle screw touches the head of the shoulder screw.

Hmm, looks like my shoulder screw doesn't stick out as far as the one in your picture. Maybe I need more than the idle screw.
