Post subject:  3 spd to 904 swap-linkage issues

Any articles or posts that anyone is aware of that can tell me about the throttle/pedal linkage placement for the 904? I have a 63 that had a 3 spd. I broke it and am now installing the 904, but there are no holes in the firewall for the linkage to bolt up to and the sheetmetal is stamped differently than a 64 that I was trying to get measurements off of. Push button shifter. Ideas?

Not sure what to tell you if you have a column shift 904. If it's a push button it should be fairly easy, if not that would be what I would look for.

Looks like Car-Part.com says there are quite a few 3spds in Vancouver and Longview, WA for $125 or so that would be a bolt in replacement (10 bolts and it's a swap and drop). Didn't see any Seattle yards on the list.

Already have the 3 spd out and a 904 rebuilt. I just don't know where to locate the linkage brackets on the firewall. Because mine was a 3 spd from the factory, there aren't anyholes for the linkage for the auto. Anyone? Future plan is to install a Hyper Pak intake, so I will probably have a different throttle cable set-up at that time. Is there a throttle cable set-up that will work for both? That would be great so I could just do it once!

I assume that you are keeping the "rod style" linkage and need to add the kickdown pieces for the 904.

There is a "bellcrank" bracket that mounts low on the firewall, there will be 3 "dimples" in the sheetmetal, showing where to drill the holes.

The top section of this image shows all the related parts and how they install.
