I started off with a fogged up plastic cover piece on my radio. I figured if I can sand and buff headlights brand new, why not try it with the radio? That funky looking fog pattern isn't a reflection or anything, it's just the strange way the fogginess developed on the plastic.



I would have rather used the 3" drill attachments but since I don't, I just used my 6" Makita rotary buffer (I do not recommend you use a 6" buffer on something this small unless you have a bunch of experience).



Wet sanded the plastic with 2000 grit. I would have rather gone to 1500 grit to get the extra scratches out of the plastic but I didn't have any. Used a cutting compound and wool pad to buff out the sand scratches. Then used a polishing compound with a foam pad to polish the plastic.



Taped off the radio bezel



Sprayed it with SEM Trim Black from Eastwood. Didn't mess with the "trim's trim". It's faded to a dull silver but the rest of the plastic chrome in my interior has faded to that, so it matches.

Installed and looks almost as good as new.



Next up will be my attempt to restore a gauge cluster.

I've been in restoration for about 3 days lol. No but really I used to detail cars so I figured I would apply the same method of headlight buffing to the radio lense. My gauge cluster lenses are all foggy as well so when I stop being lazy and get around to it, I'm going to pop them out and polish them up so they are clear again.

Be sure to let us see how it turns out. I have not got that far in my project. I'm still cutting and welding. i will be welding trunk pans in with a mig soon.
