| Post subject: | separating pushrod from master cylinder |
The night before last, my master cylinder went out. The pedal went to the floor 70-80% of the time, with NO braking. Yesterday I got a replacement MC from NAPA. I can't get pressure when bench bleeding. The pedal is going to the floor with both MC ports plugged! Bummer! So now I need to remove the replacement to take to NAPA and see if they can bench bleed it or if I got a bad replacement. The original MC separated from the pushrod with no problem. There was no rubber retaining sleeve on the end of pushrod. The new MC came with the rubber sleeve. I am having trouble removing the pushrod from the master cylinder. That new sleeve is doing an exceptional job of retaining!! Any suggestions on popping the pushrod out of the MC?? The instructions mention using a wedge between flange and firewall which I've tried without success. It is hard to get good leverage. This is my daily driver and I would love to drive it to work later! Oh and it's a stock 67 Valiant with manual 4 wheel drums. Thanks for the help, Jon |

Round 2 No luck yet. I've tried prying the master cylinder off, and just pulling/twisting. The instructions mention this method, where you put the pushrod in a vice, but this requires removing pushrod from brake pedal: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53485352@N ... 214607899/ This is contrary to the main instructions advising against removing pushrod from vehicle: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53485352@N ... 214607899/ |
