Now that I have figured out that I do in fact have a "super six" setup on this car (Carter BBD and 2-barrel manifold), I'm trying to decide the best route to go in changing out the exhaust manifold. I'd love to grab a set of Hooker Super Comp headers, but my question is how this effects the intake manifold. Is there a block off plate needed for the bottom side of the intake? I know it's warmed by the exhaust manifold as it's currently set up, and I know that the Dutra Duals take care of this issue as well. What is my option here? How are headers adapted to a setup like this? If I am completely mistaken please correct me, but I would assume I need some sort of block off plate or something to cover the under side of the intake manifold right? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Jeff |

u will not need to seal that place on the intake manifold. it is not an open hole. headers will NOT provide u any sort of hotbox effect for the intake. switch to headers and u will nedd to improvise something, or go without. in warm climates u can get by like that. up north, that's a different story. |

Thank you. I know I'm up North but this car will ONLY be driven in spring/summer months on sunny days and will be garaged during the fall and winter. I just wasn't 100% sure of how the under side of the intake looked, and whether or not I'd have to fab something up to block it off. If I'm good with nothing, that sounds good enough to me. I plan to get a lot of head work done this winter, and get an electronic ignition setup installed as well, hoping the headers will be a nice compliment to this system along with the current super six. |

When I was running headers with a supersix I installed a manual choke. You do not need to block off the bottom of the intake manifold. I used to wire the heat stove from the exhaust manifold to my headers for the winter months, in the warmer months I used an open element aircleaner. |

Thanks guys, I am actually in the process of getting the right air cleaner for this 2-barrel setup. The guy before me poorly rigged a single barrel intake to "fit" a 2-barrel but it's choking the engine, hardly any air getting in. I've got the black setup on it's way, with the snorkel and breather tube hookup. |

i took the large pancake style air filter, from a 318 i think, that fit a BBD and jut cut away all but the circles i needed to put a top and bottom on a paper filter element. it looks real bare bones "hot rod". just watch out for the edges when u change the element. |

You will probably need to block off the EGR, otherwise you will be sucking in air from the hotbox area when the EGR opens. |

gato, I did the same thing to make my open element aircleaner, I took a dremmel and cut a super six aircleaner around where the element fit. I thin used brake fluid to strip the paint off. |

I should be getting the air cleaner today so once I get it cleaned up, painted and fitted I will take a few pictures. If for some reason that doesn't work I may just get one of the Holley or Edelbrock air cleaners with an adapter that you can get at Advance Auto or NAPA. |

70Valiant, a dremel tool? musta used a lotta grinding bits, no? i just used a jigsaw with a hacksaw blade. i didn't worry about the paint. mine hides in an A108 van. almost nobody gets to see it anyway.. ever think of chroming ur top and bottoms? |

I think it took me 3 of the bigger cuttoff wheels to make the aircleaner. It still had the super six decals. looked pretty good. |
