Post subject:  The "Maxton Mile" in North Carolina...?

When I called Gary Bruner yesterday he mentioned that he was going to take his red '64 Valiant drag car to the Maxton Mile race in North Carolina in late October... (He's going to swap the rear gears to more top end friendly 3.23s  )

So, who else is planning to represent the Slant 6 community at this event?

I don't know that I will have a Slant 6 car put together by then, but if I can swing it I would love to take either my '72 Dart Swinger 318 powered street car or my SRT-4...

Anyone?...

Sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

I think Lou is taking one of his cars to Maxton this summer too.

Aha! Maxton...

No wonder I couldn't find it when I Googled it.

I guess I had Super Chargers on the brain or sumthin'...

Thanks for the correction 'Zilla.

I'd love to go, but there's practically the whole country in between Maxton and me.

Your kidding Josh! I've seen you hit warp in that car!

Sounds like fun though. I guess you'll just have to settle for speed week.

I think Speed Week is a good compromise.

Actually, I think the Maxton Mile started as a compromise for those East Coast fellers...

I just want to go FAST!! :D

I can't open it up on the Autobahn anymore, so I need some sort of consolation.

I've been trying to get up to the salt for 20 years. Bought my first SCTA rule book in '90. Even for the west coaster, it can be quite the undertaking.
I've heard about the east coast event. What a great opportunity! :D

If Gary goes, I will try to meet there, and several others have piped up. He would run a lot faster than I.

We have the Burton Mile.......

Speed measured when you hit the bridge.

Fastest so far 220km in my wifes commuter car.

The Valaint comes in at 105mph......

I would be interested in going, but dont know if I could get anouther set of tires and rims by then. Gears are no problem. Maybe next year.

Hey Will,

If you commit to coming and can convince Stan Aiton to come along with you I'll promise to bring you the Z rated tires and 15" wheels off of my '72 Dart Swinger to use.

When I get back to the states mid August and work my way from Kentucky to Georgia to pick up all of my schtuff I'll confirm the measurements of the tires and wheels for you to see if they will work.

(I'm such an enabler... )

Either way, tell Stan hello for me! :D

Post subject:  2011 Slant Sixers invade Maxton?

Guys,

I was just looking at the Maxton Mile dates for 2011. For me, June 25-26 looks very good. Sept 25-26 or Oct 29-30 might also work.

ALSO, it looks like Maxton may not be a speed record site after 2011, so we might want to do this now!!!

http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=68

Could we get a contingent there on June 25-26 to have fun together, set a record or two, and turn some heads??

Possible participants or spectators/crew members:
Gary Bruner
Rob Simmons
Lou Madsen
Will Burns
???

Who's interested?

Lou

Sounds good to me. Not sure what I'll try to bring. A lot can happen between now and June...

Hey Will,

Now that Stan has moved to Texas and left you with a certain "opportunity" of sorts... Are ya gonna try to make it to Maxton one of these dates?
