Post subject: | Lokal transmissions ? |
I have a Dodge Lancer that was manual from the beginning, this is now being modified with an automatic transmission, I am not sure about the linkage yet though, it looks like a mess to try to find the buttons for the push button transmission (I did find a few on eBay but not all) and the mechanical parts are impossible to find in good shape, we have nasty winters around here and the push button mechanics have a reputation of messing up in the winter. One alternative is to use Retro Teks Smart Shift (electronic shifter with push buttons on the panel and an electrical actuator down at the tranny), another option would be floor shifting like Lokars, the problem is that the original stick in the Lancer is very much offset to the left, has any one tried to put a Lokar floor shift in a Lancer/Valiant 60-62 ? and if so which model did you use ? |

What transmission are you going to use? The 65 down cable shifted trans, or a 66 up "mechanical linkage" trans? As far as I know there is no after market shifter for the cable shifted trans. Must use the factory push buttons, or the 1965 only, columm shifter or the factory cable floor shifter. If using the 65 shifter you must use a 65 valve body in the trans. There are many after market floor shifters for the 66 up trans. |

Imperial Service http://www.imperialservices.net/default.htm has an adapter kit to use a 65 column or floor shifter in a later 66-up 904/727. I believe they also either have a conversion kit or can modify the pushbutton assembly to work with the later transmission as well. |

I have both a 65 with cable and 66 with single linkage, the problem with mechanical push buttons is finding parts in good shape, most push buttons mechanics are pretty worm out and the Lancer 61 has square buttons, as far as I know the only Lancer/Valiant 60-62 with square ones, all other used round buttons including Lancer 62. |
