72Dart72,

Both inner & outer door handles operate the latch mechanism by pulling little rods. Chances are good that the rod connected to the inner handle has been pulled out of its socket at the latch. Some times this happens when a “Slim-Jimâ€￾ is used to unlock a car.

I use to run into this opportunity often when I had a locksmith shop many years ago, it was good for business… Someone not knowing what they were doing would lend a helping (heavy ham fisted) hand with their Slim-Jim, and un hook the rods. Cha-Ching…

You will have to remove the door panel, roll up the window, and look & feel around in the door for that rod, and reconnect it to the latch. If something is broken, check out the “Helpâ€￾ rack an auto parts store. Sometimes they will have what you need to reconnect the rod.

An other tip, sometimes these rods won’t snap back in to place peacefully without a bit of persuasion. Use a small pair of vice grips to hang onto the rod, line it up nice & square to its hole, and hook it up.
