What are the opinions of the Carter 1bbl. vs say a Holley 1920?? |

My experiences....... A Carter is pretty basic and stable and will work under a wide variety of conditions well. However, it may not get the best mileage but it is a very forgiving carb. A 1920 Holley Economaster version is great for good mileage. They were stock on many taxi cabs. A standard 1920 Holley and the Economaster version can be tuned from very lean to super rich in about 3 minutes. To pull the bowl and catch the gas, pull the jet and replace it is super quick. That is if you like to tune for max mileage for the street or run at the track on the weekends. Mine runs in the low 19's with a #56 jet (lean) and in the 16's with a #66 jet (rich). I have several and like them all for their simplicity. A 1945 Holley is a completely different carb and much more complex. They are found on SL6's after 1974. It is not as easy or quick to tune or rebuild like the 1920. I have tried several and they are fine but I have never been able to burn rubber with one. It is very tame, and more for a daily driver. |

I don't have any of those. I am sure when rebuilding them they need to ride on the belt sander to take car of the warped tops like the BBD's do.I like the BBD's BBS's look the same, just one less barrel! |
