So i was wondering a few things, i have a 133 tooth steel flywheel from a truck, but was wondering what can be done to lighten it up. is it possible to machine off the steel to just leave a frame of steel for the hub and toothed ring and rivet/weld an aluminium fly wheel face/mounting surface for the pressure plate, just thinking out loud...........

You can't skeleton-ize acast iron flywheel without it tending to explode, but they do make chrome moly ones somewhat as you describe. Slip the clutch too much though and they warp. Aluminum is more common for light flywheels.

Mcleod makes 18 lb steel flywheels for Mopar engines. That is the lightest that I know of. Aluminum is usually a little lighter, maybe in the 12 to 15 lb range.
