Comrades - while attempting to set the idle on my beloved 1978 dodge D-150 pickup, I spotted a rogue vacuum line lurking underneath the air cleaner.

At least I think it's a rogue. I can't find any place to plug it in. Covering the loose end with my thumb has no affect on the idle speed. What the heck is it?

My idle setting trials continue...

I can't see the pictures very well. Does it plug into the air cleaner base?
For example, on goes to your snorkel to open and close it. Two go to the air temp sensor underneath. One form the snorkel and one from the carb base.

Nope, no place to plug it into the air cleaner or the base. Funny thing, this aircleaner does not have a snorkel hose to a heat riser...

It's really hard to tell from the pics since they don't get much bigger, but I think I know what that might be.

It looks like something I posted on here years ago and Dan answered it for me. I'm trying to remember but he said it was something like a NOx emissions piece that was for 1971 only CA cars (this is why i'm confused by it being on your truck). The vacuum line ran from the distributor up to it, and then out the other side of the widget to the carb. The one on my car sat right there behind the choke pulloff on the head as well.

I think it retards the timing at speed or something like that. It's one of those things that you just take off and never use unless you need it to pass smog. Yours isn't hooked up anyway so it doesn't matter, but they make your car slower as well as drop the fuel economy.

Black Line - Mystery can. Vacuum line goes to vacuum 'tree' on intake manifold.

Yellow Line - Vacuum hose to nowhere. It's not hooked to anything and there are no places to plug it in on the carb or air cleaner or really, anywhere.

Red Line - Power clip to mystery can - unplugged

Green Line - Source of mystery power supply

I'm pretty sure that is part of the EGR timer/activation system. However, the vacuum amplifier is missing.
