are we sure that there is no interference with this long plug?

Not sure which NGK's your referring to.....

I use the NGK UR4GP/#2869 spark plugs in my 78 peanut plug head with no problems. Click on the red link below my name for pictures of the plugs after 55,000 plus miles.

Dozens of people with 225s have had zero problems with spark plug to piston interference with the extended tip NGK plugs.

I am looking at a NGK zfr5n plug for my 73 225. Are we sure there is no interference? My parts guy is calling me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as you aren't running zero deck it shouldn't be a problem.

Is your engine modified? Stock the pistons will be down the hole .140 to .180"

The ZFR5N works great up to 8.5 or 9:1. Beyond that, it isn't a clearance issue, but a heat range issue. With 10.7:1 I run ZFR6-FIX-11 Iridiums, though they are not extended reach.
As your compression exceeds 9.5:1 go colder. :D

I just put them in my 225 a few weeks ago and no problems.
