Hi,

my 225 Slant 6( in my 1967 valiant) won't go past 3000RPM after it's warmed up. It just sounds like there's nothing left in the engine and it won't go anymore.

Car has been ported and polished, extractors installed, + new ignition with big coil. As far as I am aware the carb has never been touched. and it's still the single bbl BBS?

Any ideas?

I am very new to this so I don't have a good ear but I think it may just be running to lean. And I've also never adjusted a carb before... I've been told it's fairly easy with on of these single bbl's. But I would appreciate any help or advice on what to do.

How do the spark plugs look? Is the porcelain white? If so this is a good indication it's running lean. Also if you can feel the car surging at cruising speeds that's also a good indication that it's running lean.

Also make sure you have full throttle movement.

If it is running to lean I adjust the Idle mixture screw? for a Carter BBS?

Is that correct?

Idle mixture will be one thing you'll have to change. You'll also need to change your jet size.

What's the fuel pressure at the carb?

A clogged up fuel system (filter, line, tank pickup) will restrict fuel flow.

If it still has the stock cam, it won't wind too much higher...if the timing was not degreed in and the "line up the dots" method used, that can be part of the problem...BBS is a smaller inlet and a stock pipe is a smaller outlet...you'll run out about 3500-4000 rpm normally anyway... Time to think about the next step if you're running it that far up the clock.
