G'day guy's I am on the hunt for some info on what power valves, jets etc people have replaced on their holleys. A rundown on engine mods: Holley 465 245 @ 050 cam 490 lift at valve, dialed in at 103deg Hurricane long runner intake 060 over pistons head ported and polished 1.7I/1.44E valves 10.8:1 comp 2500 stall converter in 904 3.23 rear petronix ignitor and flamethrower coil (also had streetfire cdi, but dosent seem to be compatible with ignitor) Running on 98 octane. Any info would be great. Cheers Steve |

G-day, If it's a standard 465 (list number 1848) then it's factory setup will be: Primary Jets 57, Secondary Jets ???(it's not in my carb list) Power Valve 85, Discharge Nozzle(shooter) 25 and Green Secondary Vac spring. Sorry if you already knew all this. Now I'm only going on my experience with my Slant which is similar in build to yours but mine is .100 over size with not as much comp and cam and I don't have a long runner intake I have a Cain intake. So here we go, firstly you should see how it drives out the box ie. with the carb at factory settings. You'll soon figure out what you need to change. Here's a website that has helped me countless times. http://www.bob2000.com/carb.htm It's hard to tune a carb without being there but just as a stab in the dark I'd say with your Hurricane intake you may need to up the shooter size because of the long runners, you may need to up the jet size just because higher performance Slants like fuel. As I said this is just a guess at what you might need to do, every engine is different, and even the same engine can be different from one day to the next. FWIW with the 390 Holley on my engine I've gone from 51 jets(std) to 55, 65 PV to 45, 25 shooter to 31 and Plain sec spring to Yellow. Good luck. P.S. if you're in Perth I could help you out. |

Cheers SV162 Sorry am in Adelaide. Have booked car in for a dyno tune in sept. Thought I might be able to iron some of the bugs out so I could be a little closer to the mark before going in. Car runs with carb out of the box, seems to idle ok, however when in gear it sounds like it's going to stall, but this is probable due to the tuning being way out. It will break traction if you stomp on it a little but it is pinging so have to take it easy so as not to destroy anything. Hopefully the dyno tune will sort everything out and then I can have a little play!!! Cheers Steve |

Welcome to the site, Steve. If you haven't already, you might try using "Search" to find Holley 465 info. A few people here are using (or have used) those carbs. I have played with a 390, but I find Holleys inconvenient to tune for street and strip and now run an Edelbrock 500 AVS on one of my carbureted Slants. The Holley 500 2bbl is also quite nice. Slant on, Lou |

I used to have a 465 Holley on my Valiant, search for my posts if you want to see what i was running, I cant remember off the top of my head what I had in it for shooters, jets, ect. I dont think I ever got it running as good as it was capable of running. |

Hey Steve, pinging is not good. Maybe you should take some timing out of it. |

Thanks for the reply guy's, I will delve deeper into the search function. SV162 I have just had my dizzy recurved, initial 14deg, mech 18deg, total 32deg al in by 3500rpm. No vac advance, I think it's pinging, not really sure, better safe than sorry, will see what the dyno say's when it gets tuned. Cheers Steve |
