First of all... Will it bolt up to my stock exhaust manifold heat exchanger thingy with no issues? Second... will my stock exhaust manifold flow well enough (when I re-do my crappy exhaust pipes) to let the carb and motor breath well? And third... Anyone have one they wanna sell? |

MOST EXCELLENT! I go to my favorite place ever today... the junk yard to hunt... Anyone in Southern California looking for anything that they are too lazy to go get themselves that I could keep my eyes out for? lol I have been looking on ebay and other places but... I don't really have the $150-200 plus shipping right now. I would rather try to save some money as I am jobless. lol OH also I was trying to wait to rebuild my carb because I thought I was going to be doing this 2bbl intake thing sooner... but my carb had other plans. So I rebuilt it and now it's leaking from the throttle plate shaft kinda badly. vacuum-wise and when the motor is not running and I bump the throttle gas leaks out all over the place from there. SO... all the more reason to get another carb... lol -Marc |

Just junk that carb and go get yourself a NOS Carter BBD 2bbl for a slant 6. Don't get a 318 BBD because you'll have to fabricate a different style of choke linkage. |

Eeek! Fabrication? Lol not that I am not creative but I much rather prefer plug-and-play. Thanks for the tip. I have seen those on eBay for decent prices. |

Got lucky found a mid 70's van with the 2bbl intake and the 2bbl SL6 Carb all in tact for $80. Was going to get the exhaust manifold too because all the intake heater goodies moved real smoothly... but I didn't have the money. Lol I will rebuild the Carb this week and slap it in! Then... I have an excuse to do my crappy exhaust. |

I live in Hollywood but I frequent Sun Valley. There are 3-4 Pick-Your-Part's there. You just have to know where to look. There used to be one called "Memory Lane" that was ONLY cars older than '75 I think, but they moved... I have to find out where. That place was awesome. In the junk yard I was at I found about 6 cars with slant sixes. One was a '67 dart with an aluminum single barrel intake... But... I didn't need that. lol I have seen cars as old as 1960 in this junk yard and they get rid of them after a few weeks and bring in new ones every Thursday I think. Just gotta make junk yard pounding one of your FAVORITE things to do... like me... lol -Marc |

Hold on, there. You say you found a 2-barrell intake and carb in a California junkyard? On the first try? You, sir, are the luckiest person in the world. I suggest you buy a lottery ticket. Now. |

Any chance that van had the factory air cleaner? If so, I would be interested in it. Send me a PM. |

Dang... Yes it did have the factory air cleaner but I didn't buy it... However... I should be going back tomorrow to poke around more to see what I can find and if it's still there I will get it. I generally have decent luck in the junkyards. Call it "Trash ESP" if you will. lol I have been dumpster diving and going through trash since I was a kid. Mainly for my Mom who wanted me to get her flowers so she could press them in books and make crafty crap with them. I was 5. lol But it became fun when I started finding REALLY useful stuff that people just threw away. Not that I am homeless... but I am not afraid to poke in the trash or linger that extra hour at the junkyard just in case I run into something that was hiding that I could either use or sell. -Marc |

OK so, I got the intake all cleaned up and painted it, rebuilt the carb for $18, put it all on (had to plug like 5 vacuum ports on the carb from smog crap) and fired it up. SHE RUNS! smoother/better acceleration and more throaty from the tail pipe. However... I have a few questions... 1) what is a good idle speed adjustment? I tried to get it at about 650 but it seems to idle kind-of rough. I set it at about 850 and it seemed to smooth out a bit but still idles a little rough. I may need new points... dunno... kind-of pops/sputters a little... kind of did that before the swap too. Not a lot but enough to make it a little rough. 2) When I bump the throttle (who's response is MUCH improved btw) it revs and then takes about 6 seconds to settle back to idle speed. Despite not bumping it much over 1200 rpm. 3) I heard a pop or two coming from the intake on my test drive around the block while giving it a tiny bit of throttle to take off from a stop. didn't notice it before the swap. I have no air cleaner assembly on it now as I was stupid and didn't buy it when I found the 2bbl set up in the junk yard. could this be a cause? Valves just adjusted, new plug wires, cap, rotor, points adjusted, new coil and plugs gaped to .40 THANKS GUYS!! -Marc |

Sounds like a vacuum leak on the intake. The leak will cause the carb to lean pop and respond slower. Good sealing gaskets are important. Try the RemFlex at www.reflex.com or the Aussie carbon fiber gaskets. |
