About 6 months ago I bought a 69 dodge Dart 4 door. The car had barely been driven in the previous couple years, but drove fine on a test drive. On the way home however it stalled constantly. Eventually I had a carb rebuild done(Holley 1920)and it drove fine for a week(maybe 12 hours of running time) and then began stalling again whenever the car slowed down at lights or just decelerating in general. So back to the garage where all plugs, rotor, cap, fuel pump,fuel filter, intake manifold gasket,points, condenser and wires were changed. Ran for about 2 hours and back to stalling again. although it seems if the car sits for a few hours it will run again for a little while. I was told at the garage that I now need a new carb and I have an intake manifold gasket leak but they can't find it. So should I try and have the carb rebuild done somewhere else, should I get a new one, also there is a small amount of gas leaking from the fuel bowl when the car is running which from the forums sounds like the accelerator pump, also leads me to believe they never rebuilt the carb properly. Any thoughts would be so appreciated, thanks. |

Buy fifteen fuel filters. Or drop tank and have steamed out. Sounds like a piece of floating junk. Or maybe a hole in fuel pickup in tank. Need more half tank or less? After setting does carb run dry? Do you have a clear fuel filter on it? If so watch as car runs see if it runs dry. If so see above. Not being a smart a// just trying to help. shadetree |

I appreciate the ideas, thanks. What ended up working was I replaced the coil and bought a remanufactured carb and now it's running like a charm. |
