You might get lucky and find a new old stock Carter BBD on eBay. Otherwise, the Holley or Barry Grant two barrels are available new.

There is nothing wrong with a rebuild if you take a original carb to a good shop and watch them go through it and have the shaft re-bushed. That way they will keep all the parts together.

Generic rebuilds from a local parts auto store have mixed parts and are not always reliable.

well i got my 2bbl intake manifold from a 77 volaire... it had EVERYthing still on it... the only trouble was... i couldnt aford EVERYTHING that i needed... the bloody thing still had the air cleaner... thankfully im getting a nice check soon, so i can afford to run back down there and pick it all up...

idk about the carb... i mean i want a new one, but i hear stories of "oh i rebuilt mine and it works great!" then i hear stories of "OH i rebuilt mine, it was garbage so i took it to a pro and its still garbage, go new..." and then everywhere i look its either "GO HOLLY!" or "CARTER!" or some other brand... its like walking into a store and being bombarded with sales people trying to sell me 5 different kinds of underwear...

Only way to get a "new" Carter is NOS. As Josh says on the new or Have it rebuilt. You can take your carb to a rebuild shop and they can most likely tell you whether its a rebuildable core or not.

Be carefull with those street demon carbs, I have heard a lot of bad things about them, Poor idle, full of shavings from manufacturing, lots of difficulty tuning... I am not sure but I think you need an adapter to put them on a slant as well.

Just keep looking in the yards, BBDs are out there and extremely easy to rebuild.

Are there any reasons why an Edelbrock Performer 500cfm carb wouldn't work? I too am in the market for a "new" 2-barrel and see these all over the place.

The only problem is that at peak efficiency a slant only requires about 400cfm, so anything bigger than that and you aren't using all your carb is capable of.

i got a nice reply from demon jsut now... "We would not have any idea as to the answers to most of those questions as we do not offer a direct replacement 2bbl per application. They are based on the Ford 2300 base patterns but we would not have any other information regarding the installation you have.
Thank you,"

so im most likely going with a NOS carter or holley... >.>

The Eddy 500 140X is a GREAT carb for a slant. It only draws what it needs. I use these and Carter BBDs almost exclusively.
