I live in the Dayton, OH area and need to borrow/rent/purchase a deckplate for a 225 slant 6. My father-in-law has a speed/machine shop and "giggled" when I asked him if he had one...he still recommends that we use one. This is for my personal vehicle, so I hate to make a big investment...Please Help!

The Cox brothers in Columbus used to have one. You should be able to Google them.

Well I am obviously very new to this stuff.

What is a Deck Plate

Maybe it's because I am from Australia.

----------------------------------------
It is a thick steel plate that bolts to the deck of an engine block and simulates the stresses of bolting on a cylinder head and is used when machining a cylinder. It is used to help compensate for the natural tendency for an engine block to distort when the cylinder head is torqued.
Here is a picture of one. (ed)

I called Cox Brothers in Columbus and got a recording that their number is no longer in service...are they out of business?
Do they go by a different name?

Thanks,
John

Yes... I still have my cast iron plate made from the deck of an old cylinder block, I use that one on many aluminum block SL6 builds (3.445 bore size)

I also had a "torque plate" professionally made for 3.500 bores, here is a photo of that plate.

Here is the unit in action:

Any chance you could post a dimensioned sketch? I'd like to make a pile of metal chips.
