Should these work reasonably well on my 63 dart with stock 14 inch wheels? The previous owner installed some 205/75R14s which have rolled under the bottom of the front of both front fenders...sigh.

That size should be fine. Yep, 205/75s are too big. I recommend switching to 4.5" bolt circle, disc brakes, and some nicer wheels/tires when you get a chance. This REALLY improves enjoyment of these cars.

195/70 14s are perfect for my 64.

I have the 14x5.5 rims

If you only have 14x4.5 rims, you need the 185/75 14s

Post subject:  195s or 205s?

Don't mean to threadjack, but it seems like a reasonable extension. I just got some 14" x 5.5" steelies for my '63 Valiant, and eventually I'll have to put tires on them. So, what is the general preference...the 195s or 205s? If there is a preference, what is the rationale? Will either tire pose any clearance issues on an otherwise stock 63 Valiant?

I don't see any problems with either one fitting.

The 195/70 14 comes out to be just about the same diameter overall as the stock 6.50 13's. The 205s are slightly larger.

With the 195, the 5.5 rim is in the middle of the acceptable rims.

With the 205, the 5.5 rim is on the low side of the acceptable rims.

So I figured that handling wise, it was a wash...... wider tire vs wider rim percentage.

So it came down to price....... The 205s were about 15% more in cost (same tire brand, same tire model, 195 vs 205), so I got the 195s.
