I was at my welders shop the other day and he showed me a little car he had in the back , a Lotus 7 racer, square tube space frame, all Lotus drive line, inboard disk brakes,Lotus vertical inline four with dual webbers. Said he could never find the original slant 4, this got me thinking maybe I could build a space frame roadster using american running gear (Rustang?) and a dry sump 170 slant guess I'm a day late and a dollar short. but for those of you who haven't seen it you got to check out the "lost" Valiant/Lotus 11 ,Bruce J.

Do a google search on "locost". There is quite an underground movement duplicating the original Lotus 7 setup. Most of the people are using 4 bangers, some have used v8s and 6s.

I have been out on road courses with Lotus 7s, and I've ridden in a few "at speed" with the Ford/Cosworth 4 cyls. They are pretty sweet performance-wise, but I would hesistate to call them "cars" - more like large go karts.

Cheers,

Lou

You know, to me, the "7" looks like a large Go-Kart , Too small for a slant six,or a street car, but the construction is very interesting. Here is another page on the 11. It's the idea of using the slant 6 engine as a stressed frame member that gets me thinking and looking for more details. Enjoy, Bruce

I was rearended once by a Super7! My '68 GTS was only a coupla years old, and I was leaving SIR's TransAm race, when I felt a bump from behind. I looked in the rear view mirror, and there was nothing there. So, I got out to look, and here was some weird Munstermobile. The chap driving it asked, in some heavy English accent, if he had damaged the 'bonnet'. It was surreal.
