Post subject: | Intake/Exhaust stud specs? |
I sent my head to a shop to get reconditioned and they had to remove my intake and exhaust manifold studs to fit the seat and guide machine. When I went to pick it up, the studs had been pitched. I know I can get these studs included in the ARP head stud kit, but I don't want to use head studs. I just want to know the lengh of the studs and how much thread is on each side of the shank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John |

I'm not sure, but the last time I replaced the intake/exhaust manifold gasket, the studs looked to be sticking out about an inch and a half, more or less. On the threads, I would guess that they go from the tip of the stud almost to the head. |

Oh yeah, I read here somewhere that carb studs are the same as slant six intake/exhaust manifold studs. |

Reed had this same question about a month ago. See if he found a solution. Frank |

Manifold set to Cylinder Head Studs are 5/16-18 unc x 1/2" thread length (head side) by 5/16-24 unf x 3/4" manifold side. The factory stud was 1 7/8" in total length so there was about 5/8 inch of unthreaded area between the two threaded ends. Many of today's replacement "aftermarket" studs are either a little long (2 inch total) or a little short. (1 3/4" total) The thickness of the "spanner washers" to be used, will help decide on which stud to get. The machine shop that "tossed" yours, should get you a set of replacements. DD |
