Post subject:  Vacuum line location

On the top rear of my 1965's Slant six valve cover there is a what appears to be a breather/vacuum line port. Does this get a vacuum line, and if so does it come from the vacuum port underneath the carb?
Thank you

I connected a piece of vacuum line from the bottom of the carb to the vacuum port at top/rear of the valve cover. The engine does not want to idle very good with this connection. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Herr Otto

The one with the PCV valve goes to the base of the carburetor, the "Breather" hose goes to the cover tin on the air cleaner. This allows it to pull clean air though the engine. Since there is no restriction in the breather, you would introduce a large vacuum leak by plugging this into manfold vacuum.

Thanks for the reply. This is a 65 slantsix and as far as I can tell there is no PCV valve and there also is no small port on the aircleaner for a line.

After some further reading I may be mistaken and I do have a PCV valve. It is just not what I am use to seeing as a PCV valve. I will do some further investigating and see if this is in fact a PCV valve and if I can remove it.

According to my '65 FSM, you should have a pcv valve.

The size of the breather hose should be ~5/8" It goes to the side of the air cleaner.

I removed the valve cover and sprayed carb cleaner through this port. The carb cleaner goes right through, I also shot air through it with no restriction. That is why I am thinking this is not a PCV valve as their should be restriction. This port just appears to be a breather that may have just hooked to an air cleaner but never had a vacuum line going to it like a PCV valve would have. I am not the person who put this engine in this truck and I am not positive this air cleaner went with this engine.
