No idea. 20:1 is still available, and this is a better option for a street car. The only reason I think my 16:1 is OK is that the car is really light in front (no bumper, glass hood, other removals...). I ran all of my road course events with the stock 24:1 box and only switched to 16:1 in 2009.

Also, the Flaming River box is 19:1.

20:1 is a much better choice for something that sees street duty. I had 16:1 in my '66 Dart and parallel parking would have been next to impossible. If you really want steering that quick and to use it on the street with anything more than skinny front tires you want power steering.

I believe the vendor who made the 16:1 gear sets either went out of business, or decided that the volume was too low to bother with anymore. I think the 20:1 gears are in the same boat. There does seem to be some inventory of the 20:1 gears still on hand but last I heard, once they are gone they are gone.

Of course, the law of supply and demand still works. So if the demand shows up then so will the supply.

I have a 16:1 in both my A-bodies. I like the road feel, and I'm a large person, so I don't really notice the effort to park. One of them needs a rebuild, so it would be nice to find the gear!

16:1 boxes show up on ebay once in awhile. I tried one in my car and didn't like it. I sold it to a buddy who thought he needed it in his car and that didn't work out either! So it got sold again to someone else.

I use a 20:1 now and that seems like a good compromise for me.

I'm curious to know what size tires you have on the front of your car.

The guy that bought my '66 Dart with 16:1 steering says he's built like a gorilla so he doesn't mind the steering effort. When the race tires were hot though they were glued to the asphalt. You could not turn the tires when stopped. The sidewall would distort and spring back when the wheel was released.

As it turns out, I have 205/60/15 on there now, but I used to run big tires. It's way easier to park now, but I changed because the rears were hitting the wheel openings. I might go a bit wider next time.

I know we are all spoiled by power steering but i HATE all the steering wheel turning it takes just to negotiate a tight corner. Right now, 16:1, 19:1, 20:1....anything beats this.

I didn't realize there was a 20:1 option.
I'd like to try one of these.
