Tonight I purchased a used but rebuilt 1968 smallblock 904. My plan is to remove the rebuilt guts from this transmission and stuff them into a 1978 A-904 case. I also want to add the part-throttle kickdown to this transmission since I am fairly sure 1968 trannies didn't have part-throttle kickdown.

Questions:

(1) Any problems with adding the 1978 part-throttle kickdown to the 1968 transmission?

(2) Any problems stuffing v-8 guts into a slant six case?

(3) Can I/Should I keep the v-8 tail shaft (provided it is the same length)?

(4) How hard is it to swap in the wide ratio gearset out of a 1983 904?

(5) Should I leave well enough alone and just swap the 68 tranny guts straight into a slant six case and not modify in any way, shape, or form?

Thanks to all the tranny gurus out there.

Part throttle kick down is in the valve body (just change them).
Tail shaft might be different, check spline end and length.
Wide gear set is in and around the sun gear, simply change all related parts.

The clutch packs contain different numbers of springs, depending on the engine. There may also be different springs in the valve body and governor. When doing a swap like this, its a good idea to check the factory parts catalog just to be sure.
