I just purchased a Mopar slant six to small block 727 adapter. Can any one tell me what year range these were used?

I have one too, I think Ehrenberg had done some foot work that these were available in the mid-60's to 1969 I think...

They were used from 1964, when the A-100 was introduced, until 1968 or 1969 when Chrysler made the first slant six cased 727s.

I had always thought they were made before 1968. So I am guessing the crank spacer/adapter was made in two sizes. The 67 down small pilot, and the 68 up large pilot. The item I bought is the late crank, large pilot.
Hey DI, can you check and see what size your spacer/adapter is?

The spacer I removed from a 1967 van has the large pilot for the torque converter,and the small pilot for the crank side.

That is interesting. Mine is large crank/large converter. So anyone planning on using one of these, needs to be aware of two different size crank adapters.

Hot damn. Today wasn't a total waste. I learned something new. :D

I don't think the 727 ever used the small pilot on the converter, did it? :shock:

Not that I know of. It seems like all the crank adapters had the large hole for the converter, but could have either the small or large register for the crank, depending on year.

I think these were made from about 1962 - 1967. Earlier years could have shown up in regular pickups too, not just A100.

I think mine is large pilot/large crank, as I don't remember using a spacer on the crank side on my '68 motor.

Lou, I think they would have to have been made for newer years, also. The crank pilot got larger in 68. The crank adapter I have fits over the flange (like a flexplate), not in the hole. It is too large to fit the early crank flange (it wobbles around), but fits fine on the later crank.

This is getting interesting. Just dragged out a non slant six 904 lockup trans. Put the adapter plate on the trans, and the starter will not fit. Looked closer and two bolt holes do not line up. Tried the adapter plate on a A-518 trans, and everything fits fine. Nowe I have to figure out what the other trans is. Definatly not Big Block, since the 904-999 were never made with a big block bolt pattern. Maybe for a "Jeep"? I'll have to get the numbers off the trans and check.

Answered some of my own questions. This adapter plate cannot be used with a Small block v-8 A904-A999 trans. These transmissions used a 12 inch diameter ring gear, so the starter pocket in the trans is not in the correct location for the adapter plate. The adapter can be used with a Small Block 727 trans, as these transmissions used a 13 inch diameter ring gear. The adapter plate can also be used with the A-500 (I assume this, as others have done the conversion)or A-518 trans, as these transmissions, both have the starter location for the 13 inch ring gear.
