last year i had to remove the head because the hardened valve seat on 4e had come loose, bouncing on the valve like a ring on a string. no damage was done |

The cause is that the seats don't have the proper interference fit. The fix is to use a machinist that should actually be a machinist. If the head has to be peened to retain the seat then the seat is not tight enough in the head and the valve and seat will run hot. |

The good news is that valve seats come in different OD sizes so you should be able to find a larger size insert and re-do the job, using the correct interferance fit. DD |

thanks guys for your replies. after talking to a good head shop (Heads by Rick) i may be better off by starting with a new head. will take it out to him tomorrow and let him check it out. HBR builds racing engines and seems to have a good reputation.i walked into the back of his shop and stood next to his dragster while he made a pull on his engine dyno (the ground shook). then he called me in and we talked about my slant six. |
