Is the vacuum advance working? Verify that there's no leak in the diaphragm.

my 225 slnt starts up fine but warm, it bogs out and dies. any idea whats cousing this????? i cant find any vacuum leaks |

Bag the Vac. advance, It will run many miles with out it. What carb. do you have on it? What year is the motor? What has been done to it? My bbd would do great and then it wouldn't run on the low speed cuciut when hot. Worn throttle shaft, warped surfaces? If it's a Carter check your needle and seat, float level, metering rods, high speed circiut and throttle plates. Most of all have fun with it, buy a service manual and use the search button as there is more info. on here then you can ever can use. Later Mike |

no i cant get rid of the advance its under too much of a load ,my van.i have the carter reman 2 barrel on a 79 slant 6 |

I meant the vac advance should have no play in a bog. Just finished a 600 mile road trip with a bad one, fuel economy suffered but no bog. I would get a good carb kit, do a search to find the brand everyone likes. Download the carb manuals from the sticky thread in engine section and do a rebuild. The Carter 2 bbl. is a pretty easy carb to set up. I don't want to scare you but do a search on reman carbs. Good luck Mike |

oh haha the way you said bag it i thought u meant eliminate.i think the carb is the problem considering i changed the vac advance part a couple months ago.and its a carter wich ive grown to not like. thanks jimbo |

Have you gone through the BBD to make sure everything is adjusted correctly? The metering rod and accelerator pump shot adjustments are critical on a BBD, but are also simple to do. I would start with making sure the carb is adjusted right and then start looking at things like vacuum leaks. Carters actually aren't that bad. They are a very simple carb to adjust and rebuild. I have had great luck with them. The Super Six article in the article section has a link to a scan of a page that gives adjustment instructions for the BBD. |

well ill still rebuild it .its more that its just a reman. only carter ive ever had idk id prefer a holley. no offence.though i do not agree but i will fight to the death your will to say it. thanks jim |

That Carter is an easy carb to rebuild. Heck if you want a holley I have a high milage one I'll sell you, but that Carter is a lot more user friendly, once you get used to it. Read the manuals for it and watch the movie in the sticky. |
