The handbook for my car shows:

turn signal front - 1034
turn signal rear - 1034

indicator - 57

parking - 1034

instruments - 57

dome 1004

rear licence plate - 67

stop - 1034

tail - 1034.

What do these numbers mean and how do I know what modern bulbs to use today?

I'd use a 1157 for a 1034

All of them actually show up with an online search at pep boys 'xx bulb'
