What type of hose are we supposed to use, that goes from the breather on the valve cover to the port on the air cleaner? Size is 5/8". I went to the autoparts and asked for emission hose, but 2 different stores didn't have any, only thing that size they had was heater hose. I heard that heater hose for right there is a bad idea though due to the fumes. What hose are we getting for that? |

Hi the_shadow, you are absolutely right! The new fuel mixes and their fumes will deteriorate a hose, I recently saw a post in a forum somewhere where a mysterious fuel delivery problem was finally diagnosed to be a seemingly OK hose that sucked air through the side walls due to porosity created by bad fuel. If you make a search in this forum, you will find some writing about the subject in general. You can perhaps start amusing yourself by clicking on this link Lower priced fuel hose for the Fuel Line Mod The breather hose is not exposed to the fumes, as it only delivers air TO the engine bretaher via the air filter housing. The pcv-valve's hose is is the suction hose FROM the engine, and it is in some degree exposed to the fumes because of blow-by. Take a look in he napaonline.com and rockauto.com catalogs, they should list the correct stock quality hoses for your car, if you want one of those. Olaf. |

Heater hose is a bad idea. Even if your car dosn't have any blow by, the fumes and vapers comming from the crank still contain oil mist and other caustic fumes. Heater hose will turn to mush..been there, done that. I don't know if you can even get that hose at a parts store anymore. The correct hose you can get from some of the Mopar restoration places want an arm and leg for them. What I did was get an open element breather (like Edelbrock or Mr. Gasket) and put that on. Then I got one of them rubber water pump outlet covers and clamped in onto the air cleaner nipple the breather hose went to. Problem solved. |

Thanks guys I found some, NAPA had it in stock, and to specifically ask for it and 'wrestle' with the parts counter guy for a while though. It's labeled 30r6 |

30r6 isn't anything rare or fancy - its low grade fuel / oil hose. More info can be found here. If you would have asked for 5/8" fuel or oil hose you would have probably got the same thing, or 30r7, one grade higher. 30r9 is significantly more expensive - made for EFI fuel pressures and the inner tube has better chemical resistance. May not be made in that large a size though. |
