Hi to all, new to the board and sixes aswell. I have a 1973 dart swinger, with a 225 of course, which seems to be hesistant at low rmps. It has a Holley 1920 carb on it which looks to be in pretty decent shape but would much rather prefer the Carter BBD setup, but ill get into that later. I changed the fuel filter recently due to it having a glass one and it made the hesitiation which use to be alot worse almost completely stop. But there still is a small but noticable hesitation at very low rmps when stepping on the gas lightly, almost as if it wants to stall out but doesnt. A quick note about stalling out too, before the fuel filter change the car would always stall out, so im thinking a fuel line thats blocked? I don't know, im pretty new to cars/slants in general so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance gents. ps: I'll post pictures of the swinger as soon as i get my hands on a camera. |

Check your vacuum advance hose and also the diaphragm. |

Five items to check: 1. vacuum leaks. 2. Fuel pump output & pressure. 3. Fuel level in carburetor bowl 4. Accelerator pump shot volume. 5. Dirt in carburetor, in particular the idle & transition circuits. If number’s 4, & 5 of above conditions present, I would rebuild the carburetor. |

Slow spark advance can contribute to sluggish, off-idle throttle responce. Check the vacuum advance pod on the distributor and any hoses or vacuum control devices inbetween the VA pod and the carb. Also check the initial and machanical spark advance... a faster spark curve with more inital advance can really help "wake-up" off-idle and low RPM performance. DD |
