When my truck is warm it will often disel and continue to run on a couple cylinders for a second or 3... Usually this is accompanied by a loud gurgling noise. I thought it was some sort of loud radiator chug for the last while. After watching shut off with the air cleaner removed, the engine appears to be shooting air/gas? out the top of the carb at the same time as the noise. Sometimes the noise happens without any diseling. Pulling the key immediately/delayed doesn't seem to make any difference. It is a 87' D150 /6 with a Holley 6145 feedback 1bbl carb.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, any help is appreciated!

There are many things that an lead to this, but one of them is the fact that the last carb engines before going to EFI kept down emissions by keeping the throttle blades from closing as far as the older ones at idle setting, and running the timing retarded to make it idle at an acceptably low RPM. A slightly open throttle, and the extra heat, accompanied by some carbon build up on the valves or plugs to ignite the fuel will produce this sometimes.

Is it an automatic? Can you just shut it off in drive? It seems this would stop the dieseling. It seems that I recall a solenoid that allowed the throttle blades to close completely when you turned the key off.
