Post subject:  left hand alternator bracket
I'm hoping that this is the correct section, I trust the moderators' judgement if it is not. I've heard stories (and actually saw a grainy, blurry video of one walking through the forest) about a driver's side alternator mount that was available on vans, I was told it is somewhat difficult to acquire. Those of us that do not have hydraulic pumps, superchargers, turbos, or AC units attached in that place could benefit from moving the alternator down and out of the way of spark plugs, coil, etc. What I am wondering is this: does anyone currently make a good repop of it?

If not, does anyone have a bunch of pictures or draftings of an uninstalled one to copy? and, is anyone interested in finding out if I can get a batch made, and what a reasonable price would be?

If there is a large enough interest, I might be able to convince a local fabber to make some for us, but we would first have to find out what the pieces would cost to make, and how much we are willing to pay.

I know I want one.

:edit: Is there a third mount that places it above the power steering on the driver's side? or is it just the two?

The A100 van one bolted to where the PS pump bracket would go.. Other than where the original passenger side mounts, the van one is the only other one I've heard about.

'60 Valiant: manifold side, down near oil pan rail EXCEPT vehicles with power steering, which used a special thermostat housing with a through-boss for the alternator's lower mount, and a strap coming up from the P/S pump bracket for the upper mount—the P/S pump being mounted down where the alternator was on non-P/S cars.

A100/A108: different brackets but same location as '60 Valiant non-P/S setup (don't know if P/S was available in the A100/A108)

Current production: AREngineering mount to put a Delco alternator on the manifold side of the block

Andy gave me one bracket that was folded up and one in the flat as a pattern when I bought the slant six pile o' stuff. If there truly is a vested interest, I can pull the box and see if a run would be worth the while.

Thanks for the explanation SSD, sounds like the bracket in question is the low mount, as the other option would require a bit more modification. Although, if a solution could be produced, might have more demand. Carl, that is an idea that hadn't even crossed my mind, the only things run by pulley on my engine are water pump/fan and the alternator, I forgot about the smog stuff. I had some trouble decoding the price list, but it would seem that if the price could be kept below $40, it might be worth the trouble. Not sure how feasible that is.

Andy at AREng is no longer making these, like the 727 adaptor he made a limited run of, the bracket was also not a big seller so production was limited and it ended. I bought the last bracket pattern and the adaptor CADS, but there isn't enough interest to even get a minimum amount for a run....

I had a driver driver side generator on my 1960, I bought one of these (A200). when I converted to alternator.

The top bracket attached to a water pump bolt originally.

I will be moving my alternator to passenger side soon.

3 bolt holes are 7/16"
A =2-5/16"
B= 1-7/8"
C=1-15/16"
D=approx 2"
E= approx 1" offset adjustment strap
Strap is 10" long and straight

Forgive the cave drawing

Seems like a guy could use these dimensions and slot the holes to make up the pulley alignment and use a small block adjustment strap. Then weld tabs for alternator.

I actually got one of those gen brackets off a 1960-61 Seneca for Andy to pattern the alt bracket off of...(it was a 3 spd column car too...)

Bolt hole "C" does not exist on late blocks and is eliminated in the Alt bracket...(but up to the 1974 model year there is still an "ear" on the power steering pump bracket to use that "C" bolt).
