Jerry,the R ansd S model Valiants in Australia were the same car. Rare Spares carry 1/4 panel repair sections.

My 1961 Dodge Lancer has come a long way. I had to have the frame repaired, floorboards worked on and a new exhaust manifold put on. I also bought a new carburetor that was the exact model needed for my car. Now as I start the body restoration process is there somebody or some company that makes quarter panel replacements for my car? And I had some interior work done on the front seat and the panel behind the rear seat. Please drop me an email if you have some quarter panels or know who might make them. Thanks, Jerry7777. |

Jerry, My wife and I each own a 60 Valiant but luckily they both have good 1/4 panels.As far as I know theyre no replacement panels at all for the Lancers and Valiants in the U.S. unless you was able to find NOS or good used parts which is possible but unlikely. On the other hand though,Australia has a few parts places that sell reproduction sheetmetal patches for early Valiants which would work for your Lancer. Try to Google BLUE STAR SPARES and see what comes up,I know that they did have some sheetmetal at one time. Hope this helps HyperValiant |

It's best to have the panel guy make replacement parts as you need them because some of the aftermarket stuff is not accurately made, is expensive, and can take time / $'s to fit because of the inaccuracys. What most of us don't realise is that 1/4 panels, floor pans, dog legs, etc are basic trade school sections that apprentices make. By cutting out your bad parts they can be used as templates for new sections - sometimes much cheaper to make than buy. When I restored by 61 Valiant hardtop I needed a rear quarter lower panel replaced and the panel guy cut out the rusted section and used it as a template to make a new section. He used the grinder with a very fine blade to cut out the rusted section, drilled a few spot welds and removed the panel. I watched him make a replacement panel - about 1 hour @ $60. |
