It should be quiet. Is there good oil flow to the valve gear?

There is no pressurized oil gallery, at the lifters, in a hydraulic lifter SL6.
The oil must flow up to the rocker shaft, out & over the rocker arms, down the hollow pushrods and then into the hydro lifters.
If this is not happening, the lifters will not pump-up and make noise.

there is oil flowing from the rockers and building up on the retainers so there is flow but how do you know it is enough?this engine was layed up for awhile with a burnt ex valve, i don`t know if the lifter are not pumping up right???

How many miles on engine? Did you clean/check pushrods to insure they are straight and center oil passage is open? Could also be a collapsed lifter which may or may not free up/pump up.Maybe try some Rislone engine oil additive or some such.

i took everything apart and flushed the shaft and rockers, i did find 2 bent pushrods. i haven`t got any spears so i straighten them the best i could, the valve train doesn`t seem as noisey but i did notice that 3 pushrod were spinning slow and stopping alot, i would spin them with a pear of pliers but they would still stop and go. the oil flow seem to have increased over the retainer so there must have been some restriction in the arms.
