It certainly CAN help. A word of caution though, be careful of following the " 6 cycl " books. They contain a lot of less desireable ways of doing things. I think you will find this forum MUCH more knowledgeable.

so far i have, especially when i compare the mopar recommendation to build a wild (on paper anyway) 14 or 15 second combination to someone on here that has a 12 or 13 second daily driver.

I'm not sure I follow that. I know of a couple 13 second street cars, but they are wild builds, or use power adders. Sub 15 second cars are going to be beyond mild themselves. Getting to 14 seconds with a BBD will need a hot build. it should put you into the 16's or 17's, but not with just a carb spacer and stock engine. There are a lot of other things needed to get there. Exhaust, head work, and weight reduction are needed.

The spacer will reduce heat in the carb, and can enhance torque characteristics. I take it you have a BBD super-six.
Measure carefully before closing the hood any time you raise the carburetor. The air cleaner stud can leave a nasty dimple in an otherwise pristine hood!
1" shouldn't be a problem, but check in any case! :D

i have found a good way to check hood clearance: take an empty toilet paper roll and place it upright in the center of the air cleaner, close the hood. the roll will compress like steeping on an aluminum can and you can measure it
