Hello folks, My '68 Dart has been hiding away in the garage for 2 years. Took it out yesterday. Gave it new oil and filter. Put a bottle of 104 Octane boost into the 1/8 tank of fuel that had been sitting in the car, and added a couple of gallons of fresh fuel as well. The old girl runs terrible. It won't idle. Even at 1200 RPMs or so the engine shakes like crazy. Ran for 1/2 hour, hoping it would smooth out. It did not. Occasionally, maybe once a minute or so, the miss seems to diminish considerably, and the car picks up quite a few RPMS. What do you think? Points? Plugs? I thought about a vacuum leak, but because the miss intermittently clears up I'm moving away from that idea. The car ran well when it was put away. It has run well when occasionally started over the last two years. Compression was 115 on all cylinders when last checked this spring. Your ideas are welcome! - Mac |

Maybe the PCV valve is gummed up and needs a spray of carb cleaner? |

Second that. Drain the old gas, clean & blow out the carburetor, and rebuild. Also blow out line to tank, and install new fuel filter.gummed up carb. You can clean the PVC valve, but that is not your problem. Once the carburetor and fuel lines are clean, be mindfull that it is possible to have degraded vacuum lines that are leaking. Bill |

I also think it's your fuel system. I had the same problem with a van. I didn't put any fuel stabilizer in it because I thought I would fix it. 2 years later I have to move it and it runs just like you described. I ran a couple tanks of gas with some acetone in it and then changed out the filter. Later I rebuilt the carb because it just wasn't as good as it used to be. |

Dilute it with fresh fuel and use it to run the car. Just add a gallon or two to the fuel tank before topping off with fresh fuel.Ken

You could also auction it off on eBay as brainlube for those who dream of 'the good old days'!  Olaf |

Just wanted to say thanks, gentlemen. Indeed, 2 years of being parked means lots of varnish in the carb. A rebuild kit, plus a few hours soaking in a bath of carb cleaner, made all the difference! Thanks! - Mac |
