Ok, looked at some of the previous threads on folks looking for OEM mufflers (and how hard it is). I saw an article reference that the exhaust dimensions & back pressure did not change from the 60's slant sixes all the way through the 76-78 Aspens. I can find an Aspen muffler for $30 and am wondering whether it will work on my Dart wagon? Not sure about the dimensions as someone changed the muffler on my Dart (Cherrybomb). Has anyone tried a Volare' or Aspen muffler on their Dart/Valiant? |

As long as the tail pipe dimensions are close and you have the clearance, sure it will work. |

On my slant six (64) I used a stock 273 V8 from the tail pipe to the header pipe-Why? Because I had a new one on a parts car and it was cheap. Fits and sounds fine. Use what fits and is for a engine of about the same size. Even done it on my 50 Chrysler flathead six. |

I think the Aspen/Volare had 2 1/4 exhaust or at least the super sixes did....I think. I didn't ask the guy who did mine last month. I guess you could swedge it down. |

If it were me, I would use a stock muffler for a car with the biggest sized motor available. In other words, order a muffler for a 68 GTS Dart with a big block. Should be near stock noise level but freer flowing. Just make sure the pipe inlet size is close enough to your current pipe size to mate up properly (or use an adapter). |

The hot setup in the old days was the Imperial muffler, they had a 2 1/2" inlet and 2 1/4" outlet and were cheaper then the "Hemi" mufflers, which of course, everyone wanted on there Mopar. Remember that a freer flowing exhaust system with less back pressure will increase HP and improve gas mileage. You are not running a computer controlled car that can't adjust for the improvements in the exhaust system. |

Useless comment department: I always though Imperial’s used oak mufflers… Aspen , or Poplar as we call it in New England, has a reputation for rotting before one can even nail it up… I would not recomend Aspen for use in exhaust parts. An interesting 1962 Imperial you got there 6shotvanner, one of my favorite years. |

If you can wait till next year, you'll save some money. There's usually a big rebate offer once a year on them around May. (think it was $40 last time) |
