So a couple months ago something blew up in my trans. I drained it and pulled out THIS:

I got another NP435 from a V8 truck and slapped it in mine and it works for now. I hate the gearing. I miss the "granny first" and my 2nd. SO I thought... "Ok lets pull this thing open and see what damage has been done."
I have some questions...
1) I am assuming this is my first gear?

That should make this my 3/4 synchro assembly? Is it supposed to feel kinda loose?

This is where the thing that exploded came from. Between 1st and 2nd. Is there a synchro on second??? what is this and is it easy to replace?

Out of curiosity... what are these gears below 1st?

AND these gears between the gears are supposed to look like this to mesh better right?

Basically, if anyone can point me to a good rebuild book or parts place or give me some tips to rebuilding an NP435 I would be most gracious.
I REALLY miss the gear ratios in this trans and with the ratios in this trans I was getting WAY better gas mileage. It is amazing how important gearing is... And seeing as how the gears in this trans still look pretty damn beautiful for a 45 year old trans I would like to rebuild just the essentials and get it back into my truck!
The trans is out of my 1965 D100 1/2 ton Utiline pick-up with a 225 slant six.

I didn't know they made a 435, that didn't have "granny gear"; though from what I remember, they did offer different 1st gears depending on what truck year make and model, truck rating, etc?

Oh yea! Check this out... I found this on the internet when I got my "replacement" NP435 and was like... umm no granny first???

I thought this was REALLY interesting. There are 5 different NP435s.
The original trans in my truck had the NP435E and and the one I got from a 66 D100 with a 318 was a NP435D. totally different ratios... WHO KNEW?? lol

A few things about conventional 1:1 high gear 4-speeds in general. There is no 4th gear. 1:1 high gear 3-speeds don't have a 3rd gear either. They have a direct drive high gear which clutches the input shaft to the main (output) shaft. Power goes straight through and the gears are unloaded. The gears are there to provide torque multiplication and are just along for the ride in direct/high 'gear'.

Power flow: The gear on the input shaft drives the cluster gear in the bottom of the trans case. The cluster gear drives all the speed gears (1st, 2nd, 3rd) which spin freely on the main shaft when in neutral. This is a constant mesh transmission. The speed and cluster gears are always in full contact with each other. Only the clutches move in and out of mesh with the gears. When you shift into gear you are clutching/locking the individual speed gears to the main shaft. Reverse works differently as you actually slide a straight cut gear into mesh with the reverse idler.

Someone on here should have a pickup service manual with the NP435 gearbox.

Look up S&K in Upstate New York, and see if they are in business still. They provided me with gears for my OD 4 speed, which was a less than common cast iron version with a heavy duty input shaft, and knew exactly what I needed to make it work right. If you cannot find them, I will dig out my receipts and give you a phone number.

I have had heard nothing but good things, and had nothing but good experiences with Dave at DC Truck Parts in Oregon. He is online at jobrated.com

I gave him a link to the Brewer's 833OD rebuild kit I was looking at, and he told me, "Give me a couple days, and I'll have a more complete kit for less money."

That is awesome guys. I will check both those places out. I will be slowly rebuilding it and throwing it in in probably a month or so. But I like to get everything I need BEFORE I rip things apart. :)
I know I can't plan for everything but I like to try to get things back together as soon as I can... Because if I don't I will procrastinate and it will just end up being sold. lol
