Hey guys, i recently got a 1983 Dodge D-150 pickup with a 225 SL6. I have replaced distributor due to shredded pickups, wires, coil, plugs, rebuilt carb. It was running great and then all of a sudden started loading up on acceleration and backfiring through carb. It jumped a tooth on the timing chain. I got a timing set at my local advanced and managed to get the timing cover off. The chain had alot of play in it. I took it off and without thinking rotated the camshaft without the chain on. So now the crank and cam have been rotated freely without the chain. So how would i go about setting these back in sync now? i know the marks have to line up but there are 2 TDC's and i dont know which one to use. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANKS! :?

It doesn't matter, the cam is rotating twice as fast as the crank, just align the two marks on the sprockets and you are fine.

The two dots are not lined up Chev-style.....

Both dots must be at the Top.

Print out a degree wheel and make sure you get it right.

Every slant six timing set I have ever seen, stock or aftermarket, required you to line the dots up, not have both pointed at the top. Of course, so long as you install the new set at the same orientation as the old set (dot to dot or both dots up) it doesn't really matter since the relationship between the crank and the cam is preserved.

Well, i printed out a repair sheet from ALLDATA today and it says to line the dots up by making an imaginary line through the center of each shaft and going through the timing mark. so they do not go both up. you line them up to each shaft. I am going to try to do this this weekend, i will let yall know how it turns out, thanks for the replies!
