Post subject:  Mounting a Carter

I am getting rid of the POS 390 Holley on my 69 D100 daily driver and getting a custom built 400cfm carter with an electric choke off an old Buick. How should I mount it on the intake, facing the driver side fender or the easier way facing front?

Mount the carb either way will work. Unless it is a drag car I dont think it will make much difference.
I would be interested in your POS Holley 390. PM me what you want for it.
Thanks,
Frank

I'm trading the 390 and $100 for the carter and seeing as how I only have $75 into the Holley I think it is a pretty good deal.

I think some racers prefer to have a 4-bbl carb mounted so that the primaries are on the outside. See this link near the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I know, Frank. I thought if the carb is set up sideways, in theory there should be a little bit better distribution of the fuel/air mix. With a wire kickdown on an auto trans car, the job of mounting it sideways is not overwhelming, if manual trans the job should not be very difficult to do.

At least it won't hurt performance!

Olaf.
