I believe minimum for side and rear are 1/8" (or 0.120"?). That's what I have on Project V. Windshield may be thicker, but can't remember. I know it is thicker for SCCA and NASA. Lou |

Cool - The stuff I have seen so far is 1/8" or 3/16" So I'll plan on getting 1/8" for sides and rear and possibly 3/16" for front. Greg |

You are better off with 3/16" at least in the windshield. Side windows 1/8" is normal. That is what my Pro Glass kit from Glasstek is, and the windshield and back glass are molded. |

If you get rid of all mechanisms and go to lexan, I figure sides and rear on a mid 60s car save about 60-80 lbs. Windshield will be around 15-20 lbs. I'd have to look back to get exact numbers... I weigh everything. We pulled about 15lbs of undercoating out by stripping the whole Project V inside and underside. I have not gotten too serious with this car and even with 110 lbs of rollcage it is 2490 without me, but with 12 gals gas. Still has glass windshield+gasket in it and stock steering column. 50-100 lbs more out of it should be no problem. Lou |

Good Discusion Here guys. I was looking at summit for just lexan / polycarbonate sheets. the long 72" X24" sheets are about $100 a piece - I also have to stop in the local storm door shop too. I guess I could get one of the pre molded Windshields for the front Windshield for ruster, but it's like $375 - $400 range.. The side and back should be eailsy cut from sheets. I am also looking to get rid of most of the metal frame around the doors except for the driver's door and just totally cut and gut as much as i can from the rear doors. - I might even get rid of the rear hinges and just weld the rear doors shut once cut and gutted. The windshield on my 70 Cuda is 21 lbs stock 11 lbs. 1/4 inch pro glass. Not worth it .The sides in 1/8 inch save about 3 pounds per door and 2 in a 64 sedan. However the cranks and other stuff you can cut out will amount to about 50 lbs total on a A body. For the side windows the best deal i have found on !/8 inch is from glass installers remnants. Make a card board template and take it to different shops, MY 64 all four sides were about $20 . |
