| Post subject: | New to forum with 1980 Volare |
This is my first post to the forum. I'm not sure where to post for the first time. I'm new with a 1980 Volare with the 1 bbl Slant-6. It runs great when warm, but has a hell of a time starting and stalls with a touch on the gas when cold. I'm thinking I either need to repair the choke system or upgrade the manifold & carb. I have a 69 jeepster with a Buick Dauntless V6 225, and the best thing I ever did to it was put on a Holley 4160 carb and a 4-bbl Offenhauser intake manifold. It starts fast every time and is strong throughout the RPM band. Is there a similar upgrade that can be done for the slant 6? |

Hi, and welcome to the worlds best forum! Your last question first: Yep! Same recipe, a Holley 390 or an Edelbrock 500 on an Offy manifold are popular choices . All these matters are covered in great detail in the forum, we have an excellent search function. If you haven't familiarized yourself with the forum already, in each section there is a FAQ with clickable links (all red text) to a lot of useful stuff. Among the themes you should explore, are the links to repair manuals for the different carburetors. Buy a set of Mopar original service manuals, you can get them on CD, I prefer the paper edition myself, check eBay or Craigslist. Start with adjusting the valves (see the FAQ), check your ignition timing and spark plugs (the accuracy of the zero mark on the balancer is a good thing to confirm when the valve cover is off), and clean, check and adjust your carburetor according to the manual. If you are confident that the other things are OK, you should adjust your carb, check it for dirt inside first. Olaf. |

Welcome to the site! Olafla gave sound advice regarding how you should proceed. A FSM for your Volare will be so worth it. An Edelbrock 500 cfm or Holley 390 cfm will work, or you could upgrade to a 2bbl carb. Both of these options have been discussed here, so I would also suggest using the search function. I have a '78 Volare and an '80 Volare. Welcome to the site, and come back often!

nice 80. i also have an 80. check out aspenrt.com, and fbodymopars.com good looking commando too! we just sold our 71 recently, and i currently have a glass bodied 67 cj-5 with an oddfire v6- 4 barrel and headers
