Do you get 300HP from normally aspirated Slants? Were can i check the basic fundations for this buildups? I Assume that this engines use high CR, Am I right?

I know its possible to get 300 but its not streetable. I would love to just be able to run somewhere in the 12s. I think cam and added compression help alot as so does headwork. I wonder if anyone has gotten their crankshafts lightened?

High compression ratios and long cam durations are needed to get much over 200hp. To run 12s in a normally aspirated full-weight street car is not a trivial task. Very good cylinder head work is a must. You can't neglect the chassis either. You must put the power to the ground effectively to run the numbers.

For a light crank start with a late model cast crank engine.

Go through the Engine FAQ. The engine build matrix should be informative. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23314

Hey Nick
So tell us about your plans. Then we can help fine tune things from there. What vehicle?
What is the purpose? What is the budget? Etc.

chassis set-up and power to weight ratio is the big part to running times like that.don't know the car you have but if budget is there fiberglass parts, light weight race seats,if using leafs super stocks, drags shocks front and rear, poly race fuel cell.using stuff like this I brought my duster down to 2600 lbs. and is still drivable.by bring the weight down it is also easier on the drivetrain.

Mopar Muscle Magazine did an article on Romeo Furio's Slant 6 build up.It is still on their site with all the details. It got 300HP with Carb and 320 with fuel injection. I don't know if he ever ran it in a car, but I'm sure he can chime in and tell us. High compression and big cam are the order of the day. 300HP normally aspirated is a lot of horspower for our lowly slant. Remember the old saying, "Speed cost money;how fast do you want to go"

If you really have money to spend, the 1st thing to get is a great cylinder head. Call Mike Jeffrey in Nebraska (308-324-3576) and tell him you want a max effort head. With that head and the right parts combo, you can make 270+HP NA.

All other power parts will be secondary to this. He can get it done.
