I wanted to post a quick initial impression review of the 1" torsion bars. I picked them because they were on sale (great reason, huh). Previously, the car was set up with a 360 and .890 bars. I wanted to go stiffer for the slant, ideally .920, but they were like $300, and the 1" were on sale for $200. So, I bit. figured I could put the .890's back in if i didn't like em, and the slant is lighter anyway... The setup: -Slant Six with 904 -15" rims -large front sway bar (don't remember off hand, would have to go measure, i'm thinking 1 1/8, but that's just a WAG) -fresh front end with offset camber bushings -manual steering -disc brakes -Mancini Racing XHD springs in the back, moved inboard 3" or so with urethan bushings (left over from the v8 attack) -new KYB's on all four corners. Just couldn't spring the extra $$$ for the edelbrocks, as tempting as they sound. The review: I absolutely LOVE these bars. No more mushy wallowing in the turns (not that the .890s were awful, but always wished it were better. They were dreams compared to the stock stuff). The car feels totally planted, whips nicely around turns, and doesn't ride rough at all (to this young bachelor, anyway). I was really afraid I would feel like I got punched in the kidneys every time I hit a bump, but I have to say, they are very pleasant. Drove them through some pretty bad construction areas, and they soaked up just fine. Very confidence inspiring. My recommendation: Do it. They're aren't much rougher than the .890s, but keep the car significantly flatter in the turns. Next up: Finish up sub frame connectors, and decide whether I want the springs back to the stock location or not. I am kinda attached to the 275 rubber in the back, though... |

I too am a young bachelor, who will second the above recommendation! I switched from KYBs to Eddy IAS, but it was while the car was off the road for a few months. So with the time in between, I can't say I noticed a huge difference? 72polara, I have 225 rubber in the back with stock spring location (in a '76 Dart). Hope that helps. |
