First off I would like to thank you guys for helping me determine that I did indeed need a new alternator and NOT a voltage regulator. HOWEVER, my /6 is acting up again. Last night while driving home from work, I noticed the instrument cluster lights were quickly fluctuating from bright to semi-dim in a rythm that would sound like "taptaptaptaptap" if you were to tap the quickness of the light fluctuation with your fingertips. The fluctuation would not get faster/slower/go away at any speed difference. While sitting at a red light staring at the fluctuation, I decided to get creative and see what would happen if I turned up the radio volume and sure enough, the lights would dim to the beats of the music...As if I had some big loud sound system in it!!! All I have is a basic CD player with two 45 watt speakers in the front! To me, it seems like the voltage regulator is not properly maintaining a steady current so any draw acts like I'm running a 5000 watt subwoofer. Thoughts? Opinions? |

Try disconnecting the stereo and see if the problem goes away. |

I probably should've mentioned I have a direct power feed right from the battery to the Radio. Whoever owned the car before me decided to just cut all of the radio wires and remove them. (Why? Who knows....Then again they thought spray painting the car seats was a viable alternative to replacing the seats to their desired colour preference.) You think I should just disconnect the power wire for the Radio? Btw....Love your quote...Out here in Vegas, there's a Doors tribute band called "Peace Frog". No word of a lie the lead singer looks just like Jim and even sounds just like him. It was quite a treat to see them. |

Your 45 watt stereo (45X2) sucks up far more power than the stock 5 watt AM radio. Check your dash grounds and turn your dash light dimmer control (twist headlight control) a few times to clean its contacts |
