My 65 Valiant will be getting the main shell primered next week. I then will start on the doors, hood...etc. I need to put new bushings in the door hinges before I put them on the car. My question is this. Once the doors are primered, I can mount them and adjust them to fit. Then when we are ready to paint it I'd like to be able to just pull the pins, lift the doors off and paint them. Re-assembly would be simple since they were already adjusted before painting.

My question is this. The upper pin does not have enough room to lift it out without hitting the door. So it will need to come up from the bottom. Is there any problem with installing it that way? Also I would like it to have a C clip or cotter pin for easy removal. From reading on here I know the 65 & down hinges are different than 66 & up. Are any of the bushings in the 66 & up kits usable in the older hinges?

Thanks for any help or recommendations.

Rick

Just for your info. I ended up getting the pin & bushing kit for the 66-76 A body ( I'll post the Dorman number later) This kit worked fine in my 65. I'm not sure why the kit is not listed for 65 back? The bushings fit right, the pins were the right length...etc. Anyway, hope the info helps someone else out.

The Dorman Part number I used was 38382. 4 Bushings 2 pins.

The thing I did not know was that the lower door hinges do not have bushings in it. The door hinges right on the pins. Steel to steel, with no bushings. Didn't know that. Learn something new every day. So you actually have 2 extra bushings.
