Post subject:  1bbl carby & fuel economy

Hi guys,

i have an australian 1965 ap6 valiant with a slant six and a 1bbl carby. my fuel economy is really quite crappy, the car has been in storage for most of its life 39000 miles on the clock. what can i do to improve fuel economy? or are there things that i can check to that may be making the fuel economy bad? i heard that putting a 2bbl carby would be better, would a 2bbl carby bolt straight on?

It would be a good idea to check the float needle valve and the color of the plugs to see if it is running rich. I would also check the PCV valve.

i put a holley 5200(copy of a 32 36 weber)2bbl on a 1 bbl intake with an adapter from proline fuel and increased mileage from 13 to 17 mpg. no idea what that is in kilometers per liter. it was an easy quick conversion less than an hour.
