| Post subject: | Air pump to pass smog test |
I went to deq this morning to do the smog test. These were me results Hydrocarbon ppm: 367@ idle, 412 at 2500rpm. Standard for both 220ppm. CO ppm: 4.334 @ idle, 4.6946 @ 2500rpm. Standard for both: 1ppm. Other than that it passed all the other stuff. On the back of the test sheet it says that some of the causes are dirty air cleaner/filter, contaminated oil, stuck choke, misadjusted carb/ internal carb problems, malfunct thermosat, bad cat, malfunct air pump/not working, misfire, vaccum leak, egr malfunction(shh i disconnected that), spark timing. I was going to do an oil change and replace the fuel filter since its only like $5. And check the timing. I need a timing light with a tac so i can do it accuratley. and hook the intake side of my air pump up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can anyone give me any pics of how to set up the air pump plumbing? I just need it to pass deq. also a list of parts for the intake side of the air pump. the exhaust side is hooked up. Thanks!!! |

The CO being high means it's running rich. You can probably have the idle mixture adjusted to get the CO down and if the engine is not burning oil the HC should also come down. What was the exhaust oxygen and CO2 percentages? I'm thinking your catalytic converter is dead. |

The CO2 was 5ppm @ idle. The limit is 6. The test doesnt give me any percentages. How do i adjust the mixture on the carb? |

I'd say the cat is probably toast. Plumbing needed from another Dodge Ram with slant six would be the AIR, the tube from the AIR to the first cat convertor (is your tail pipe equipped with one "cat" or two?)....this also has some kind of valve in line if I remember right.... If the carb were in better shape, I'd wonder if you could get away with upping the jet a few numbers and getting a tank of E85.... -D.Idiot |

Well looking through all the pictures and diagrams i have on my computer. I realized two things. 1. I accidentley hooked up my OSAC to the wrong vaccum port. oops It has one cat, under the floor. The tube from the pump goes into the exhaust about 1ft down line from the exhaust shroud for the air heater thing for the intake. Hah i think it might be the original carb?! who knows. I dont wanna mess with rejetting it and filling up on E85 though, I just filled up my tank two days ago. lol. If anything id get a whole new carb |

CO2 doesn't matter......... (perfect combustion results in H2O and CO2) NOx, HC and CO are pollutants. NOx and HC are ppm and CO is % |
